Martial Arts Tricking Townsville | UMF Tricking Program
Selected Students. Higher Expectations. Extraordinary Skills.
At United Martial Arts & Fitness (UMF) in Townsville, we believe martial arts should continually give students something new to work towards.
The UMF Tricking Program is a specialised martial arts development pathway offered exclusively to selected UMF students who demonstrate the attitude, discipline, physical readiness and commitment required to take on an additional challenge.
This is not an open-enrolment class.
Students don't simply sign up for the UMF Tricking Program. They earn the opportunity to participate.
Combining martial arts, acrobatics and athletic movement, Tricking gives selected students the opportunity to develop impressive physical skills while strengthening confidence, coordination, perseverance and body control.
What Is Martial Arts Tricking?
Tricking is a dynamic movement discipline that combines techniques and influences from martial arts, gymnastics, acrobatics, breakdancing and other movement arts.
It brings these disciplines together through flowing combinations of:
- Martial arts kicks
- Spinning kicks
- Jumping techniques
- Flips and aerial movements
- Acrobatics
- Transitions
- Creative combinations
Unlike traditional martial arts competition, Tricking is less focused on fighting an opponent and more focused on movement, creativity, athletic development and individual progression.
Students learn individual movements before progressively connecting techniques into more challenging combinations.
The result can look spectacular—but behind every successful trick are countless repetitions, corrections, failures and improvements.
That process is exactly where much of the value lies.
More Than Learning Impressive Tricks
At UMF, Tricking isn't simply about learning how to flip, spin or perform an impressive kick.
It provides another environment in which students learn an important lesson:
Difficult things become possible through consistent effort.
A new technique may take dozens—or hundreds—of attempts.
Students have to listen, practise, make mistakes, accept coaching, adjust and try again.
Eventually, something that once seemed impossible can become something they can confidently perform.
That journey can develop:
Confidence through genuine achievement.
Resilience through setbacks and unsuccessful attempts.
Discipline through repetition and consistent training.
Perseverance through refusing to give up when a skill becomes difficult.
These qualities matter at UMF because our goal has never been simply to build better fighters.
We want to develop stronger, more capable young people.
What Can Students Develop Through Tricking?
Martial arts Tricking provides a unique physical challenge that can complement a student's regular martial arts training.
Students may further develop:
Coordination and Body Control
Tricking requires students to coordinate their entire body through complex movements, rotations, kicks and landings.
Balance and Spatial Awareness
Students develop greater awareness of where their body is positioned while moving, jumping and rotating.
Explosive Power
Jumping, kicking and rotational movements challenge students to develop greater speed, power and athleticism.
Flexibility and Mobility
Progressive training can help students develop the mobility and flexibility required to perform increasingly advanced movements.
Confidence
Successfully achieving something that once seemed extremely difficult can provide a powerful sense of accomplishment.
Persistence
Students quickly discover that unsuccessful attempts are part of learning—not a reason to quit.
Creativity
As students progress, individual techniques can be connected into combinations, allowing greater freedom and individual expression.
An Opportunity That Must Be Earned
The UMF Tricking Program in Townsville is not available through general enrolment.
Students are selected or invited by UMF instructors based on their readiness and overall development.
Selection may consider:
- Consistent attendance
- Training effort
- Coachability and listening skills
- Respectful behaviour
- Discipline
- Coordination and body awareness
- Strength and flexibility
- Physical readiness
- Ability to follow safety instructions
- Commitment to improvement
- Attitude when facing difficult challenges
Natural athletic ability alone does not guarantee selection.
At United Martial Arts & Fitness, character matters.
A student representing one of UMF's specialised programs should demonstrate the standards expected throughout our Academy.
Safety Before Spectacle
Advanced martial arts movements can look impressive, but performing the biggest trick is never the priority at UMF.
Foundations come first.
Students progress according to their age, experience, physical development and individual readiness.
Our approach is simple:
Control before speed.
Technique before difficulty.
Foundations before progression.
Safety before spectacle.
Students may need to demonstrate competency in foundational movements before progressing to more challenging techniques.
There is no race to perform the most advanced trick.
The objective is safe, sustainable, long-term development.
Invitation Does Not Mean Entitlement
Selection into the UMF Tricking Program is a privilege.
Students are expected to continue demonstrating the behaviour, commitment and training standards that earned them their opportunity.
Participation may be reviewed when these standards are no longer being demonstrated.
This reinforces an important principle we want young people to understand:
Opportunities are earned—and they must continue to be earned.
Part of the UMF Student Development Pathway
The UMF Tricking Program is available exclusively through our Young Warriors Program (8–14 years). Students cannot enrol directly in Tricking; participation is offered to selected Young Warriors who demonstrate the required discipline, commitment, attitude and physical readiness.

Tricking is another example of how United Martial Arts & Fitness goes beyond simply teaching students how to punch, kick or grapple.
UMF students can develop through structured martial arts training, our Character Development System, progression pathways, leadership opportunities and specialised programs.
Our Academy teaches martial arts including Wing Chun Kung Fu, Muay Thai, Boxing, Kickboxing, Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, Judo, MMA and Street Edge Krav Maga, alongside dedicated children's martial arts programs.
The UMF Tricking Program provides selected students with another opportunity to challenge themselves beyond their regular training.
More Than Building Fighters — Developing Young People
Parents searching for kids martial arts in Townsville should consider more than which techniques their child will learn.
What will be expected of them?
What values will be reinforced?
What opportunities exist as they develop?
At UMF, martial arts training is used as a vehicle for developing qualities including discipline, respect, confidence, resilience, responsibility, commitment and leadership.
Specialised opportunities such as the UMF Tricking Program provide another goal for students who demonstrate that they are ready for more.
Not every student will be selected immediately.
That's intentional.
For some students, earning an invitation can become another positive goal to work towards.
Who Can Join the UMF Tricking Program?
The program is available exclusively to current UMF students who are selected or approved by the UMF instructor team.
Selection can consider age, maturity, physical readiness, martial arts experience, behaviour, training consistency and demonstrated character.
Not receiving an invitation today doesn't mean a student cannot earn one in the future.
Keep training.
Keep improving.
Keep demonstrating the right attitude.
Your next opportunity may be something you earn.
UMF Tricking Program | Townsville
Selected students. Higher expectations. New challenges.
The UMF Tricking Program combines martial arts, gymnastics, acrobatics and creative movement to challenge selected students physically and mentally.
But the most important skills may not be the flips, kicks or aerial techniques.
They are the discipline to practise, resilience to fail, courage to try again and confidence that comes from eventually succeeding.
That's the UMF difference.
More than building fighters. We develop people.
Current UMF students interested in working towards selection for the Tricking Program are encouraged to speak with their instructor about the standards and development required.
