Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) 4 Kids 6-14

Townsville Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) 4 Kids - What is MMA?
One Academy. Complete Martial Arts. Real Self-Defence. Lifelong Confidence.
MMA extracts techniques from striking arts such as Boxing, Kung Fu, Muay Thai, Kickboxing and many other martial arts, integrating grappling techniques from Judo, Wrestling, and Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (Gi & No Gi). All these Martial Arts merge into one Combat Sport.
MMA (6–14) at United Martial Arts & Fitness is where Townsville kids learn to handle every range—striking, clinch, and ground—with structure and control. This is a specialist program focused on real-world self-defence, not chaos.Every class follows clear standards with strong coaching leadership for safe, consistent progression.
United Martial Arts & Fitness exclusively delivers Townsville's only licensed industry-leading Character Development System, building confident, respectful and resilient children through real martial art.
Leadership opportunities await. Selected MMA students may be invited into the Junior Leaders Program, an exclusive leadership pathway that develops confidence, responsibility, communication and leadership through mentoring, service and leading by example. UMF’s MMA 4 KIDS PROGRAM
Consists of our Brazilian Jiu-jitsu (Gi & No gi) and Boxing / Kickboxing / MT classes. MMA doesn't stop on the ground. We teach essential takedowns and throws derived from Judo and wrestling, giving students a complete grappling foundation — from standing to submission.
UMF MMA 4 Kids is more than just punching, kicking, elbows & knees. MMA alone DOES NOT develop character, having a structure towards self-respect (behaving dignified & honourably) is what we want for our MMA Kids.
- “From Shy to Strong – Transform Your Child Through Martial Arts”
- “Give Your Child the Confidence to Say ‘No’ to Bullies”
Why UMF trains each discipline separately rather than MMA as a whole—is rooted in building elite-level skill and precision in every core area of combat.
Why Trains This Way:
Mastery Over Mediocrity:
By isolating, Muay Thai, Boxing, Wrestling, Jiu-jitsu, etc, ensures one is not just decent across the board—but dangerous in every range.
Sharper Technique:
Discipline-specific training allows for technical refinement that often gets watered down in blended MMA sessions. This means crisper hands, tighter grappling, and smarter transitions.
Smarter Sparring & Injury Prevention:
Controlled focus on one discipline reduces chaotic wear and tear from constant full-contact MMA sparring—preserving longevity and keeping performance sharp.
Mental Focus:
Tackling each art individually helps develop mental clarity and deeper strategy within each range of combat, which he then blends during fight prep.
In Topuria’s Words: “I do boxing classes, wrestling classes... I try to learn every discipline separately.”
It’s a method that echoes how some of the greats like, Georges St-Pierre and Demetrious Johnson trained—mastering the parts to dominate the whole.
Why Safety & Trust Come Standard at UMF
At United Martial Arts & Fitness, we don’t just talk about professionalism and safety — we live it.
Every UMF instructor holds:
- A current National Police Check
- A valid Working with Children (Blue Card)
- An approved NDIS Worker Screening Clearance
This sets us apart. While other schools may overlook these safeguards, we go above and beyond — ensuring that every team member who steps on the mats is not only qualified, but cleared, trusted, and held to the highest standard.
Because when it comes to your child’s safety, you should never have to compromise.

Is MMA 4 Kids good for self-defence? We must be honest.
The UFC uses the tagline ‘As Real as it Gets’. Meaning that MMA is as real as it gets to fighting in the real world. Is that true? People think it’s the same and by default that MMA is best for self-defence. However, the issue is not as simple as you may think. There is a difference in training for a street violent encounter, compared to an MMA fight. If you are after a 4WD and you are sold a 2WD, how would you feel. The takeaway is your child will learn to apply MMA skills for a Combat Sport Arena. MMA 4 Kids training prepares your child for a physical altercation when all else fails. The industry’s #1 Character Development System will prepare children to respond by stopping conflict BEFORE it starts, to AVOID and therefore PREVENT it. The highest goal of the martial artist.

WHY UMF’s MMA 4 KIDS program stands out.
- Power is not based on physical strength or ability to dominate others.
- Power is not the ability to win or know more than others.
- A powerful person is one who knows defeat.
- A powerful person is one who wants to learn.
- A powerful person is one who can understand him or herself and has the desires to understand others.
The greatest gift we have to offer in the martial arts is Character Development which infuses us with values a capable and responsible citizen of the community. This is our intent – to teach MMA in a practical, fun, and respectful way.
“90% of MMA students just want to learn MMA and to get fit, only 10% want to get into the cage and compete”.
To meet your needs, UMF has a structured MMA curriculum to give students short- and long-term goals.
Emilio Cardenas, aiming to provide Townsville's best character development program for kids, recently completed a Rock and Water Program. This expands UMF's offerings beyond their top-rated system by incorporating social-emotional skills through Rock and Water's unique, research-backed approach (founded in 1998). It's not just about fighting; it's about building self-confidence, communication, and resilience – exactly what Rock and Water helps young people achieve through physical exercises and the "Rock" (strength) vs. "Water" (flexibility) metaphor.
